Bambini - Royal Children's Hospital

Recognising the importance of outdoor play and its positive impact on children's physical and emotional health, Bambini Early Learning embarked on a playspace rectification project aimed at revitalising their outdoor spaces

LeadBuilt, with our expertise in creating safe and engaging play environments, was entrusted with the task of transforming the hospital's landscape into a vibrant and therapeutic haven. The project encompassed a range of enhancements, from upgrading play surfaces and expanding recreational areas to introducing natural elements and ensuring accessibility for all.

The scope of work detailed a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to creating a space that would not only facilitate play but also contribute to the healing process.

Key Project Highlights:

  • Play Area Enhancements: The project includes converting existing sandpits and garden areas to synthetic turf for improved safety and maintenance. The addition of a Yarning Circle with natural timber elements creates a unique space for gathering and storytelling.

  • Accessibility and Safety: The scope addresses accessibility by ensuring flush transitions between different path surfaces and adding safety features like low fences around trees and bollards with rope.

  • Play Value and Engagement: The project aims to increase play value by expanding the sandpit area, adding a new deck stage, and creating a bike path with traffic signage.

  • Aesthetics and Maintenance: The plan includes replanting gardens, cleaning shade sails, and replacing timber edging with sleeper edging for a refreshed look. The irrigation system will be tested and repaired, and mulch will be replaced with granitic sand for easier upkeep.
