Safe and Functional Design for Urban Childcare
Safety was a core consideration for this elevated play environment. LeadBuilt constructed two spacious sandpit zones with beautifully curved timber walls and framed them with clear, secure safety glass panels. These visual barriers maintain an open, connected feeling while ensuring children’s safety at height. Soft synthetic turf was used throughout to provide a comfortable and fall-safe surface for active play.

Purposeful Play Elements that Support Learning and Development
At the centre of the space is a large, custom-built timber fort featuring interactive climbing elements, a wide double slide, and a climbing wall. These components have been selected to encourage gross motor development, balance, coordination, and confidence-building through physical activity. Additional timber balance beams and fixed play items provide open-ended opportunities for movement and imaginative roleplay.

Interactive Garden Beds and Natural Features
Understanding the importance of connecting children to the natural world, several timber planter boxes were constructed to encourage hands-on gardening and sensory exploration. These garden areas not only enhance the visual appeal of the rooftop but also provide a space for children to learn about plant life, nutrition, and environmental responsibility. Mature tree plantings in large planters offer emerging shade cover, supporting long-term comfort and sustainability.

Delivering in a Complex Urban Setting
Constructing a rooftop play area on a three-storey site requires specialist expertise in logistics, compliance, and access. LeadBuilt’s experienced project team managed all aspects of the build with precision—delivering a high-quality result with minimal disruption to surrounding operations. This project is part of an ongoing partnership between LeadBuilt and Bambini Early Learning, following a series of successful playground and centre refurbishments across Victoria and New South Wales.
